Turning 33

I turned 33 the other day.  There. I said it. I owned it. Given everything that has happened recently, I had told Dave that I didn't really feel like celebrating.  However, I agreed the cupcakes would be okay, especially since I am a loyal fan of Cupcake Royale.

I woke up on my birthday to discover that both my blow dryer and flat ironed had died.  This was an ominous sign.  I then declared it a hat day.  As a rare week day treat, we all went out to breakfast at Portage Bay Cafe, which was wonderful.  Going on an early weekday morning, there was no crowd and no rush.  The kids responded by being significantly calmer than when subjected to a wait and a bustling restaurant.  Dave and I have decided that we need to go out for breakfast on a weekday more than once a year.

Dave went to work and my parents showed up to watch Eileen for the day so Linus and I could go to the King Tut exhibit.  As my parents walked in the door, Eileen proceeded to have diarrhea all over me.  Did I mention the day started out with an ominous sign?  I quickly changed and Linus and I headed out the door.  We made it just in time.  We saw the IMAX movie, Mummies: Secrets of the Pharoahs, first.  Linus was entranced.  After lunch and a brief trip through the science center, we headed into the King Tut exhibit.  Linus did well for the first two rooms and then lost patience/really disliked the crowds.  The exhibit recommends allowing 90 minutes, we took 30 minutes.  So, my advice about King Tut is save yourself a lot of money and only go to the IMAX if you bring a preschooler.

Linus and I took a moment to document this important day. I don't think he quite understands where he is supposed to look.  You will notice the distinct hat hair I am rocking.
Linus and I came home to discover my parents had bought cupcakes as well from Trophy.  It was a banner day, cupcakes from both Trophy and Cupcake Royale.  My parents stayed for dinner. Dave brought me flowers.  Linus bought himself a toy. In the end, I found myself unintentionally celebrating my birthday and that's okay.

The next day we headed out to Bob's for the annual trip to the pumpkin patch. We've gone to a different one every year. As a kid I thought everybody just got their pumpkin at the grocery store.  I had no idea what a big deal pumpkin patches were.  Personally, I prefer the more low key pumpkin patch.  Bob's has a lot going on and a lot of people--corn mazes, corn shooting, horse rides, hay rides, animals, playground, cow train, food stands.  It was crazy.  Luckily, the rain held off, the company was excellent (our PEPs group), and we came home with four pumpkins.

A few pics from the day:
Linus picked the biggest one he could find.

Of course we let Eileen ride a horse.

I think horseback riding is quickly becoming a passion. My bank account is worried.

Linus decided he couldn't let Eileen have all the fun.
Friends since birth, Linus, Caitlin, and Jackson.
