Candy and Cake

Our slew of birthdays continues.  Linus just turned 7.   Part of the fun of having your birthday the day before Halloween is that sometimes your birthday happens to fall on the same day as the class party.
So handsome.  He chose to be a cowboy this year in order to work around my general "no guns" policy.
It was pretty sweet.  He was star student this week so his class made a special book for him about why they think he is awesome.  It was free dress along with costume party in the afternoon.  He asked me to be his special lunch guest and I brought him a Happy Meal.  Normally, I just grab some cupcakes from the store to share with the class, but Linus special requested I make dirt cups.
It was a busy day.  He had soccer practice after school.  Linus is doing scouts this year and the boy scouts run the school Halloween Carnival, which happened to fall on his birthday.  We opted to wait on the birthday celebrations and go to the carnival.  The kids had a great time.  I decided to dress up this year.  I made Dave too.

In between soccer practice and the carnival, we had just enough time to open presents. Linus loves football and the Seahawks. Dave and I gave Linus some Seahawks eye block stickers, a Seahawks Starbucks giftcard (He asked for a gold card.  I told him he was on his own for funding it.), and a Kindle.  We don't normally give such big gifts, but Linus is a voracious reader.  It seemed like an easier way to keep track of all the books he gets from the library as well as allow him to get books instantly.  I surprised him even further by loading all seven Big Nate books onto his kindle.  Later this week we will take him to get his very own library card.  Before going to bed last night, Linus thanked me and said, "This is the greatest gift a boy could ever ask for."  Heart melted.

Halloween morning was spent lounging in jammies before soccer.  In the afternoon, Dave and Linus went to go see "Pan" to celebrate his birthday.  My parents and sister came over for dinner and cake.  We feasted on Kraft mac n cheese, Annies shells and white cheddar (he wanted to see how they tasted mixed together), dino chicken nuggets, and granny smith apple slices.  There were no complaints.  Linus was excited to receive real tools from the Rousseaus, more tools and a toolbox from my parents, and legos from Sally.  Robin was a bit jealous of the tools.

Despite it being Halloween, Linus wanted a Seahawks and football themed birthday.  We hung blue and green streamers.  I made sure to get Seahawks cups, plates, and napkins.  He was happy.
When Robin woke up from nap, he didn't feel like waiting to eat dinner before cake.  He simply scooted a stool over, climbed into his chair, grabbed a plate, and said cake.
Contemplating what it means to be turning 7.

I decided to try my luck and see if Sally wanted to take the kids trick or treating.  I don't think she could truly understand the depth of Dave's and my appreciation for her willingness.

Robin loved trick or treating.  He really figured it out quickly.  I'm not sure whether he liked grabbing the candy or pushing the doorbells more.  For some reason his candies of choice were dots and lemonheads.  I will need to educate him better.  Robin did manage to figure out how to open boxes of candy with zero assistance.  He was pretty mad when I put up the bucket of candy.

I think I managed to limit myself to three pieces of candy today but that is only because I had a giant piece of cake.  Tomorrow, those Reeses peanut butter cups are all mine.
