This week Dave and I celebrated 15 years of marriage. "Celebrated" in all honesty may be a stretch. I believe our conversation went something like this:
Me: Hey, did you know it's our anniversary tomorrow?
Dave: Yeah. Did you want to do something?
Me: Eh. Not really. I don't want to find a babysitter and we are already going to a fancy dinner on Sunday.
Dave: That's what I was thinking too.
Me: Great. Glad we are on the same page.
That ladies and gentlemen is marriage. On my anniversary, I took the kids to early morning swim team, finished painting our guest room, and cleaned the house top to bottom. When Linus accused me of not doing anything fun, I mentioned the fact that it was my anniversary so if anyone should be having fun it was me.
I saw Linus immediately get inspired. He suddenly wanted to talk to his sister. In fact, he wanted to go on a bike ride with her despite the fact that she can barely ride. I could see the wheels turning in his head (no pun intended). Touched by his thoughtfulness, I offered to drive them to Third Place Books and ignore them completely. I even gave them $5. It was very cute watching them work together to hatch a plan.
Dave wasn't home for dinner. We ate hot dogs and raw carrots. I know. Like could we BE any more romantic?
Once Dave was finally home, Linus and Eileen presented us with our gifts and a card. Dark chocolate for Dave and milk chocolate for me from the chocolate store. I pretty sure Linus went in there for the samples and then decided to make a purchase.
The card was my favorite.
If you can't read it, it says,
Time Line Poem
From the time of the kite-eating
Dinosaurs, to the time of the kite-eating
trees, to the kite-eating Jawa's.
I think you are guys are the kite
Together forever.
(In Dinosaurs mouths/trees/Jawa hands)
Linus admits to being partially inspired by Charlie Brown (the infamous kite-eating tree).
This card is a testament to Dave's and my love. 15 years ago we became a family. We now have 3 kids as a part of our family. 3 kids who love us very much and try to be thoughtful in their own way, enough to make us a really hilarious card. Really, what is more romantic than that.
Happy 15 years to us!
